Taino people settled Cinnamon Bay before Danish colonists built a sugar plantation worked by enslaved Africans, and a half-mile boardwalk loop now runs through its ruins from the beach parking lot on St. John's North Shore Road. The one-mile Cinnamon Bay Trail climbs from east of the ruins to Centerline Road, with a 0.38-mile spur to the America Hill great house.

Three miles down to the beach from the trailhead near mile marker 5 on Centerline Road, past Danish sugar plantation ruins, stone cattle-grazing walls, pre-Columbian Taino rock carvings and some of the oldest and tallest trees on St. John. NPS describes it as strenuous, with steep, uneven, and rocky terrain and a long uphill return; check current trail conditions directly with NPS before setting out.
