An old dirt road runs the quarter mile from the parking area to Salt Pond Bay beach, inside Virgin Islands National Park on St. John. The Ram Head trail itself is just under a mile, a narrow path that climbs to the top.

Two-thirds of St. John is national park. Trails lead to historic plantation sites and to ancient petroglyphs made by the Indigenous Taino, and visitors snorkel the coral reefs inside the park. Reaching it means a flight to St. Thomas and a ferry across.
